James Carter Electric Outlet

Moods, 29.5.2018

was it in that record shop in vancouver or somewhere else where i bought myself a surprise? as one of these albums i take out again and again. intermittently. now and then. intensely listening. I simply owed myself a live-session of James Carter.

i thoroughly enjoyed tonight’s formation : James Carter (saxophone), Gerard Gibbs (keyboards), Alex White (drums), Ralphe Armstrong (bass).

They played one set, which was intense, interesting, sound of the best and I simply and only can say, I hope they did enjoy playing as much as I did listening.

the beginning was livelier or maybe a bit more on the rhythm side. and the chatting was pretty rough too. they were up all the long for a laugh now and then. to me, anyway, it’s clear, it must be rhythm that makes life. towards the end, the song got rather less deep at first listening. I noted the following just after the concert : smoothness is for girls not for dancers.

I can only say again: loved it through and through. and will get that album out now and then.
